A grant for Ukrainian cleantech

Climate Innovation Vouchers (CIV) is a grant programme for Ukrainian cleantech.

Grants of up to EUR 50,000 cover 75% of the cost of services: intellectual property protection, industrial design, product certification, production facility design and more.

Taking part is not only about money: you join an ecosystem where service providers, mentors and partners are there to support you.

CIV is a component of the EBRD FINTECC programme (Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change), supported by the EU under the EU4CLIMATE initiative.

Four rules worth knowing before you apply

🧾

The grant funds services

The company selects a service provider to carry out the work. Up to three providers can be engaged for different services.

⚙️

Equipment, no more than 20%

Only a fifth of the grant can go towards buying equipment. The rest is work and services.

🤝

25% co-financing

The beneficiary pays the service provider 25% from its own funds; the EBRD reimburses the remaining 75% once the work is complete.

📑

The programme supports Ukrainian business

The applicant is a small or medium business, privately owned, and has been operating for at least a year.

How eight years ended

Between 2017 and 2025, CIV supported more than 64 Ukrainian cleantech companies with grants worth around EUR 2.3 million. In September 2025 an awards ceremony was held for the 11 winners of the final wave of the closing phase.

The project earned national recognition: in 2024 CIV won the European Enterprise Promotion Awards for its contribution to entrepreneurship and received a special mention at European level in the "Supporting the Sustainable Transition" category.

Ukrainian grantees presented their work on the largest international stages. Eight beneficiaries spoke at COP29 in Baku, the UN climate change conference.

Beyond grant support, together with the UCU Business School we developed a training programme for beneficiaries, "Growing Ukraine's Green Industries: Capacity Building for Climate Innovators", provide mentoring and prepare companies for meetings with investors.

And we are already working on new opportunities for Ukrainian cleantech, so stay tuned.

Not only money, but eight weeks of work

When designing the programme we wanted more than simply handing out a grant. The goal was a living working environment where Ukrainian cleantech founders scale their businesses alongside those who have already walked that path: engineers, investors, managers and partners.

One of the key design decisions was simple: every module is taught by practitioners. No academic digressions, no worn-out MBA slides. Cleantech moves too fast, and Ukraine's window of opportunity for climate leadership is too narrow.
